Who are we ?

Densham and Associates are an Australian based international communications consultancy company, specialising in the GMDSS - with a particular emphasis on the design and project management of GMDSS Coast Radio Stations.

Our principal, Mr. Glenn Dunstan, was the Australian Maritime Safety Authority's Senior Marine Radio Surveyor for much of the 1990's.

Mr. Dunstan was intimately involved with all aspects of the GMDSS, including policy formulation, equipment approval, production of legislation, shipboard equipment survey, audit/technical overview of the Coast Radio Network and operator examinations.

Mr. Dunstan wrote the Australian GMDSS handbook.

System design

Many areas of the world have not yet upgraded their coast stations to GMDSS standard. This is primarily because of the apparently high cost and complexity associated with GMDSS coast station systems.

GMDSS coast stations do not have to be expensive or overly complex!

Densham and Associates can design a simple and cost effective GMDSS coast station to suit your needs – be it a simple upgrade or a complete new system.

Projects have included:

• Design and costing to upgrade the Papua New Guinea (PNG) Coast Radio Network to GMDSS standard - conducted on behalf of the PNG National Maritime Safety Authority.

• Design and project management of the PNG National Health Radio Network - a major Australian Government aid project to provide rural health communications to PNG. The network comprises 1500 HF and VHF stations and a major network HF control station.

• Upgrade of the Namibia Coast Radio Network to GMDSS standard. This involved new HF and VHF radio facilities and a new Digital Selective Calling (DSC) system.

• Design and project management of GMDSS implementation at the Shanghai (China) Coast Radio Station - on behalf of the Australian Government International Aid Agency, AusAID.

• Design and project management of the Solomon Islands National Health Radio Network - a major Australian Government aid project to provide rural health communications to the Solomon Islands. The network comprises 500 HF and VHF stations and a major network HF control station.

• Design and costing of a complete GMDSS Coast Radio Station Development Plan for the Pacific Region - on behalf of the Secretariat of the Pacific Community and the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

• Complete Re-design of the PNG Coast Radio Network - on behalf of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU).

• Design and installation of a GMDSS radio system at the Australian Rescue Coordination Centre.
